New member for General Church Board
Pastor Tim Stringer is the new member of the LCA/NZ’s General Church Board (GCB). Pastor Stringer, who serves the Greensborough Parish in suburban Melbourne, was appointed by the Board as its pastor member, replacing the late Bishop James Haak.
New South Wales District Bishop Haak, who was elected to the role at the LCA/NZ’s General Convention of Synod in Sydney last October, died suddenly on 20 October 2018.
Pastor Stringer has been a member of the Victoria-Tasmania District Church Council since 2017 and has served for 13 years in pastoral ministry.
He also has been studying for the Doctor of Ministry degree in Biblical Preaching through Luther Seminary in St Paul, Minnesota, in the US. He was appointed at the November 2018 meeting of the GCB, which acts as the church’s ‘synod between synods’.
‘I have been encouraged by others to pursue service in the wider church beyond my initial call’, said Pastor Stringer, who was nominated for the GCB role prior to the 2018 General Convention. ‘I am passionate about the support of the workers of the church and the call to serve our Lord. I am keen to look to the future of the church and the possibilities that lie ahead.’
