Lutheran churches making news
Many churches around the LCA/NZ have been using innovative ways to stay connected with, minister to and care for members and their wider communities – and some of these have even made it into mainstream newspapers or been featured on TV.
The Pittsworth Sentinel newspaper, based in Queensland’s Darling Downs region, published a story on 8 April about how churches and people in the town and surrounding areas recognised Palm Sunday. This included photos of palm branches displayed at the Lutheran church and manse and quotes about the wonderful display of Christian unity across denominations from Pastor Lionel Rohrlach, who serves the Pittsworth Lutheran Parish.
Meanwhile, on 25 March, The Leader newspaper, which covers South Australia’s Barossa Valley, ran a story featuring the words of Pastor Adrian Kitson, from St Petri Lutheran Church Nuriootpa, about the congregation’s ‘virtual worship’ services, shared through their website and on DVD.
