Environmentally minded members sought for new committee
An exciting opportunity is available for LCA/NZ members with a particular interest in environmental issues. The LCA’s Commission for Social and Bioethical Questions (CSBQ) is calling for nominations for a new committee, Lutheran Earth Care Australia and New Zealand (LECANZ).
The proposal to establish LECANZ was jointly made to the 2018 Convention of General Synod by CSBQ, Lutheran Education Australia and Australian Lutheran World Service. Synod referred the proposal to General Church Board, which endorsed the establishment of LECANZ at its August 2019 meeting.
‘Our church is taking action in many areas to care for our world, but it is often difficult to see this work or its results’, CSBQ chair Dr Cathryn Hamilton says. ‘LECANZ offers a way to share those stories and build on this great work.
‘The LECANZ Committee presents a great opportunity for people with expertise in this area to use their God-given gifts and lead the LECANZ network forward.’
CSBQ is seeking one pastor and four lay members to become the first LECANZ committee. They will need to have qualifications or experience in one or more of the following fields: environmental science and related fields; education and training; theological perspectives on care for creation; environmental and energy efficiency; and public policy.
The commission is especially encouraging people aged between 18 and 35 to get involved in order to influence the LCA/NZ’s life and witness in this area.
The term of appointment concludes in October 2021. Anyone interested in serving on LECANZ can contact Dr Hamilton at cathryn.hamilton@lca.org.au for more information.
The committee Terms of Reference are available here. Nomination forms are available here. Nominations close on 14 May 2020. Nominations forms should be sent to nominations@lca.org.au
