Learning more about mission
LCA local mission leaders are offering new missional practice training opportunities from this month through Australian Lutheran College (ALC) and the NSW and ACT District’s Frontier School of Mission.
As part of ALC’s undergraduate Diploma in Ministry course, Local Mission’s Dr Tania Nelson will teach the ‘Introduction to Christian Mission’ unit, which begins with the first Zoom discussion session on 21 February 2023 and runs until 16 June 2023. (Officially the unit begins on 27 Feb, so it’s not too late to enrol in the unit or attend as an audit student. However, you should do so ASAP.) The LCANZ’s Executive Officer for Local Mission will also team up with Pastor Nathan Hedt to lead the ‘Missional Discipleship’ intensive at Frontier’s Port Macquarie campus from 20 to 24 March.
Introduction to Christian Mission explores the biblical and theological basis for understanding the mission of God. It examines approaches to, and models of, Christian mission. Considering the need for an understanding of culture and context when engaging in mission, it investigates the elements of responsible and ethical missional practices.
Missional Discipleship begins with Jesus’ practice of discipleship as found in the gospels and examines practical ways in which discipleship can occur in various missional settings within the Australian context. Students will not only be challenged to rediscover Jesus’ radical approach to discipleship but to apply this to their own lives and to mission and ministry in contemporary Australia.
