Social and Bioethical Questions
About CSBQ
With direction from the College of Bishops, the Commission on Social and Bioethical Questions (CSBQ) oversees this important area of our church's work. We examine the questions carefully from a Lutheran ethical perspective and prepare responses for the College of Bishops to consider. These responses may inform LCANZ policy (eg Synod resolutions), training programs, study materials, congregational guidelines, and submissions to relevant bodies, such as parliamentary select committees.
Christian ethical decision-making guides
Such topics include ethical eating, nuclear energy, organ donation, pornography, racism, responsible investment, tattoos, yoga, vaping, vaccination, care for creation and euthanasia.
Identity and gender pastoral care
In response to a call from the Lutheran education community for teaching and pastoral care advice on identity and gender, the LCANZ has approved a cover letter to be read in conjunction with the 'Created and Loved' Christian guide – the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference Statement for schools. The CSBQ and Lutheran Education Australia undertook an extensive consultation process and thanks Lutheran Education Australia and Commission on Theology and Inter-Church Relations.

Four working groups report to CSBQ: Lutherans for Life, Lutheran Earth Care, Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, and Lutheran Refugee Action Group. Three of the four working groups have their own websites, where you will find resources for personal and congregational use.
PREVENTION OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
