New risk management guide for churches
Recently, the General Church Board approved a new Risk Management Policy. To help with compliance with this new policy, LCA Insurance has created a Risk Management Guide for Churches.
God expects us to be good stewards of the people, assets and resources he has provided us with. Risk management is a vital part of Christian stewardship and will assist us all in being good stewards. ‘Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms’ (1 Peter 4:10).
While you should have insurance to protect your assets, it is also an important part of your risk management to build your awareness of the potential risks so we can make our buildings and locations safer places to gather.
Proverbs 27:12 says, ‘The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty’. Risk management is being prudent and doing our best to see and assess the risks and take action so we can reduce or avoid paying the consequences.
