North Adelaide properties listed for sale
The church’s North Adelaide properties – occupied by Australian Lutheran College (ALC) and the LCA Churchwide Office – were listed for sale in early April. There has been considerable interest in the sale from local and national media outlets, as well as from prospective buyers.
Bounded by Ward, Jeffcott and Archer streets, the unique 1.9-hectare site currently comprises a mix of residential apartments, hostel rooms and townhouses, an office building, refectory, library, vacant development sites and State Heritage-listed Hebart Hall. It is being offered for sale as a whole package, as four allotments or as 12 individual blocks – a variety of options designed to maximise the range of potential buyers and deliver the best possible outcome for the church.
Attention is being given to the future needs of ALC and the Churchwide Office, with a view to identifying a new location if required.
The ALC campus is no longer fit for purpose, and the cost of maintaining the site is approximately $400,000 per annum. Further, with ALC moving to a distributed learning model, the current site is no longer necessary for its operations. With the college’s on-site community decreasing and buildings not being used, theft and vandalism have also become regular problems.
ALC Board Chair Cheryl Bartel said that relocation to a site ‘more conducive to the delivery of quality learning and teaching’ has been proposed for some time and that ALC will continue to work with the CWO to seek ‘more operationally efficient premises’.
Expressions of Interest in the sale close on Wednesday 15 May 2024.
