but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son.  (Heb 1:1,2 NRSV)

OR

(Jesus says to God:) ‘I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters,
in the midst of the congregation, I will praise you.’  (Heb 2:12 NRSV)

Prayer of the day - (Collect):

Traditional

O almighty and most merciful God,
in your bountiful goodness
keep us from all things that may hurt us,
that we may be ready both in body and soul
cheerfully to accomplish those things
that are according to your will;
through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.

Modernised Traditional

Almighty and merciful God,
in your goodness defend us
from everything that might hurt us,
so that we may be ready in body and soul
to do cheerfully what is according to your will.
We ask this through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.

Alternative

(Let us pray that we may live by faith. [silence])
Almighty and merciful God,
you have ordered our earthly life
that we must walk by faith and not by sight.
Give us such trust in your fatherly care
that we show our faith
by our courage in the face of all perplexities.
We ask this through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.

New

(Let us pray for a child-like faith. [silence])
Loving heavenly Father,
you have made us your own children,
the younger brothers and sisters of your Son, Jesus.
Give us faith like a little child,
so that we ask you for whatever we need
with complete confidence.
We pray through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.

Alleluia Verse

Alleluia, alleluia.
(Jesus said:) Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will not enter it.
Alleluia.

Prayer after the Gospel

This is the gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.
Lord Jesus,
thank you for the gifts of marriage and children.
Give us faith like a child.
Amen.

Offering Prayer

Almighty God,
thank you for speaking to us through your Son,
and for making us your daughters and sons.
Lead us to live holy lives
as your holy people.
Help us to show kindness and respect to others,
and to serve all those in need.
Amen.

Prayer of the Church

Prayer points

  • Prayer Points – Lutheran Church of Australia (lca.org.au)

Dear heavenly Father, thank you for making us male and female, and for the union of marriage with its many blessings.  Please preserve the truth about marriage in our culture and in the church.  Help us educate our children and young people in the proper ways of sex and marriage, and remove the perversion of your good creation from our national life and media.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer.

We pray for those who are married, that you will build their commitment and loyalty to each other, and by the power of Christ bring mutual forgiveness and renewal where there is sin.  Strengthen all married people to resist temptations to be unfaithful, heal and renew marriages which are struggling, and prevent anyone from willfully separating what God has joined together.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer.

We pray for those who are divorced and those who have remarried, that they may know your mercy and forgiveness for Jesus’ sake.  Give them wisdom and grace in relationships with their former spouse, and help them bring up their children well.  And dear Lord, protect all who are abused in marriage and bring the abuse to an end.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer.

We pray Lord too for those who wish to marry but who have not yet been able to do so.  Give them firm faith in your constant presence and care, and give them the companionship they need.  Watch over all widows and widowers, and take care of all orphans.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer.

Thank you for the rain and sunshine we have enjoyed in good measure, and for the many blessings in this peaceful land.  Please bring peace where there is war and unrest.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer.

Heal all who are sick among us according to your good and gracious will, particularly (insert names). Comfort those who mourn and let your holy angels uphold and guide them.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer.

Loving heavenly Father, you sent your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who being very God is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters. In him we are able to come before you as your children, your family. Hear our prayer, glorious Lord, that all may know your greatness. Through your Son we pray, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

    Amen.

  • Prayers for Convention of General Synod

Dear heavenly Father, we give thanks for the gift of the gospel, for the forgiveness of sins won for us by Jesus in his death and resurrection.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer.

We thank you for our local congregation where the gospel is proclaimed, baptisms conducted and holy communion celebrated, showing God’s grace coming to us in down-to-earth ways.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer.

Dear heavenly Father, we pray that the Holy Spirit would make us and our congregation aware of those people with whom you we share the good news.

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer.

Dear heavenly Father, we pray that God will continue to guide and direct those who led the Convention held this weekend, especially Bishop of the Church, Paul Smith, Assistant Bishop, Neville Otto, and Secretary of the Church, Dr. Nigel Long

Lord in your mercy: hear our prayer.

We thank God for the LCANZ staff and volunteers who worked so hard in preparation for the Convention.

Preface

It is indeed right and good,
Lord God, holy Father,
that we should at all times and in all places
give thanks to you,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
(On this day)*
he overcame death by his resurrection
and opened up for us
the way to eternal life with you.
And so, with angels and archangels,
and with all the company of heaven,
we adore and praise your glorious name:

* The words ‘on this day’ are used only on Sundays.

Communion Invitation

Jesus says: ‘I am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me will never be hungry,
and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’
(Thanks be to God.)
Come, everything is ready.

OR
Jesus says: ‘My flesh is true food and my blood is true drink.
Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood remain in me, and I in them.’
(Thanks be to God.)
Come, everything is ready.

OR
This cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks
is a communion in the blood of Christ.
This bread that we break
is a communion in the body of Christ.
(Thanks be to God.)
Come, everything is ready.

Prayer after Communion

EITHER
Let us pray. We give you thanks, almighty God, that you have refreshed
us through this healing gift; and we pray that through it you would
graciously strengthen us in faith toward you and in love toward one
another; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
OR
Let us pray. Heavenly Father, as you did not spare your own Son, but
gave him up for us all: Grant that we who have received his body and
blood in the sacrament may live in him and he in us, so that, as your
children, we may walk in your ways and serve you all the days of our
life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.

Alternatively, use the third prayer of the day (as listed above) at this point. It may be modified as follows.
Almighty and merciful God,
thank you for showing your love for us
in this sacrament.
As we walk throughout this earthly life by faith,
give us such trust in your fatherly care
that we show our faith
by our courage in the face of all perplexities.
We ask this through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever.
Amen.

Dismissal

Go in peace, as God’s dear children.
Thanks be to God.

OR  In the name of Christ. Amen.
