Your generosity in action in Myanmar
Through Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS), our Lutheran Church helps give families in Myanmar access to education, income opportunities and hope for a brighter future.
This support makes a world of difference to people living in an internally displaced persons camp in Myanmar, including a mother who shares the story of her journey from despair to joy.
‘We have been living here for seven years. We came here because in the conflict our house was burned’, she says.
‘At that time, we had two children. The children were crying. They did not want to come here. We do not have enough food for the children. We could not take anything, only the clothes we wear. Sometimes the children have coughs and fever and fly. We have a lack of food and clothes.
‘I want my children to have an education. If a child does not have education, they will not be able to get a job. This will make me very sad. I will feel very downcast if this happens.’
In partnership with the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), and through your support, ALWS has provided temporary learning spaces – schools – for children to attend. Teacher support, stationery, and buildings mean students can receive an education and grow their futures.
‘That is why I am happy to see LWF provide materials and everything children need to go to school. We are so happy that people in Australia help us’, the mother says.
Multiply the power of your love
ALWS has received a special 5:1 matching grant from the Australian Government. ALWS must raise $88,100 to fully match this grant and extend its programs in Myanmar.
ALWS aims to confirm this match by 30 June, so projects in Myanmar carry on without delay on 1 July. Learn more and support this special match campaign at www.alws.org.au/match
